Parenting is far from easy. There's a million approaches and it can feel like none of them work. Sometimes we need another level of support. I've talked with a lot of students and heard how frustrating it can be to come to therapy. Or how scary it can be. There can be a lot of questions ("Am I ok?", "Will I always be depressed?", "Why am I angry?"). Or there can be a lot of denial ("I'm fine", "My parent is really the problem", "Counseling's a waste of time"). There's no growth without trust. It takes time to get to know a teen and understand where they are coming from and what they need to vent about. It may not always come out in an office too - we may need to go to another setting or get outside to help them feel comfortable. I also work with parents to understand what you're seeing. We'll take some time exploring what's working and what isn't working, brain-storming solutions that could be beneficial. I'll talk to you about approaches that I've seen help other parents that have been in the same spot as you.
