Valena (V) Hedin
(They/Them/Theirs)
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
I welcome clients of marginalized groups who have experienced trauma and are looking to build safety and care for themselves.
Sometimes the things that are meant to keep us safe and nurture us are the ones that cause us the most harm. For many, growing up in a fundamentalist religious or faith community can be the source of lasting traumatic effects. Maybe you are struggling with accepting and embracing your sexuality because of purity culture. Or the constant threat of eternal punishment hanging over your head has led to anxiety, panic attacks, and fear of making mistakes or getting in trouble. Whether you are experiencing shame, anger, fear, self-doubt or any number of debilitating effects of religious trauma, know you are not alone. I understand the pain that comes with leaving abusive faith communities and am ready to join you in the process of deconstruction and partnering with you to rebuild a sense of self that is so often lost in the face of trauma. I work from a trauma-informed, feminist, anti-oppression, sex-positive, and person-centered framework. If the idea of processing trauma and deconstructing speaks to you, then I would be honored to join you in this journey. You’ve already been doing the hard work, allow me to partner with you to ease some of the burden.
