Real assessment. Healing grounded in the body.

I am Dr. Shanika Wilson, a licensed clinical social worker practicing in North Carolina, Delaware, and South Carolina. I work with adults through telehealth, and my practice focuses on women who are carrying more than most people see. Many of my clients come in exhausted. They are high-functioning, deeply committed to everyone around them, and quietly struggling. Depression and anxiety do not always look like falling apart. They often look like a woman who has not slept well in months, whose shoulders stay tight, whose body is sending signals she has not had time to hear. That is the work I do. I help women slow down enough to listen. My approach is grounded in trauma-informed care and diagnostic assessment. I take assessment seriously. A correct understanding of what is actually happening clinically shapes everything that follows. Too many women have been misread, minimized, or handed a label that did not fit. I do not rush that part of the process. But I am also a person, not just a clinician. I am a professor, a mother, and a Black woman who has spent years studying how stress and trauma live in the body, particularly in women who have been told to keep going. I bring all of that into the room. What makes this practice different is the level of attention. Telehealth done well is not a lesser version of care. It is care that meets you where you are, on your schedule, in a space where you can breathe. I am licensed in three states and work with adults who are ready to take their mental health as seriously as they take everything else. If that sounds like you, I would be glad to connect.
