Robert Herman

Treating conditions ranging from depression and bipolar disorders to ADHD, PTSD, and substance use, Robert A. Herman, M.D., FAPA, provides comprehensive psychiatric services for children, adolescents, and adults in Arnold, Maryland. Dr. Herman is a board-certified psychiatrist and Distinguished Life Fellow in the American Psychiatric Association who earned his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1983. His clinical foundation was built through a residency at New York University-Bellevue Hospital Center and advanced psychoanalytic training at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Having taught at prestigious institutions like NYU, Columbia, and the University of Maryland, he brings a wealth of academic and practical expertise to his patients. Dr. Herman’s career has encompassed diverse environments, including general and psychiatric hospitals as well as university mental health services. He currently serves on the consulting medical staff of Anne Arundel Medical Center. His approach to care utilizes medical interventions such as medication management and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). While he no longer provides psychotherapy, he emphasizes a collaborative model, working alongside therapists to deliver integrated treatment. Beyond his clinical practice, the Long Island native is a bass singer in the Bach in Baltimore Concert Series and enjoys spending time with his three daughters and grandchildren.
