As a former professor, I'm experienced at helping students distinguish and navigate personal, social and academic challenges. I've learned that change is truly possible, even under the most difficult circumstances. You don't have to suffer without hope--or help. Whether you're feeling anxious and depressed, angry, confused or just stagnant, effective psychotherapy can help you to feel better. I work to help you untangle the many ways we can become stuck in life. Working as partners, we explore hopes and fears, thoughts and feelings. Together we examine experiences, understand painful patterns and create more rewarding choices. In this way, I have successfully treated such problems as depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and professional and academic difficulties. Clients often tell me I have a warm, calm, and insightful presence--as well as a good sense of humor. While I always draw on psychodynamic, CBT/DBT, and other approaches, I work differently with every person. You and your history are unique and we will jointly develop an approach that best suits your needs. I connect well with a wide range of people, including those who feel "different." I am particularly creative in engaging resistant teens and building a safe place to explore problems and possibilities. Finding the right therapist can be a daunting challenge when you are already managing stress. Talk to a few and trust your feelings.
