Trauma-informed therapy for college students ready to heal, build resilience, and feel more confident in school, relationships, and life.

Hi, I’m Patricia Alvarado, a licensed psychotherapist and the founder of Alvarado Therapy. I created this practice with a clear purpose: to make high-quality, trauma-informed care more accessible and less intimidating, especially for students and young adults who may be reaching out for support for the first time. Many of the college students we work with are juggling a lot. Academic pressure. Family expectations. Relationship stress. Cultural identity questions. Big life transitions. Sometimes it looks like anxiety, burnout, or feeling “behind.” Other times it’s unresolved trauma that keeps showing up in ways that are hard to explain. Our role is to help you slow things down, understand what’s happening beneath the surface, and build the tools to move forward with clarity and confidence. Our approach is warm, collaborative, and structured. We are trained in trauma-informed therapies, including EMDR, and integrate practical skill-building with deeper emotional processing. That means we do more than just talk about what’s wrong. We work toward real shifts. You’ll learn how your nervous system responds to stress, how past experiences may be shaping present patterns, and how to create healthier responses moving forward. What makes our practice unique is our commitment to culturally responsive care and reducing barriers to mental health. Many of us are Latina therapists and we understand how culture, family dynamics, and unspoken expectations can influence your experience. You do not have to translate your world here. We honor the complexity of who you are. At Alvarado Therapy, we also believe therapy should feel grounded and professional. We respect the process. We show up prepared. We track progress. And we focus on meaningful change, not just weekly venting. Whether you are navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, or simply trying to understand yourself better, our goal is to help you feel more steady, more empowered, and more connected to your values. Starting therapy can feel vulnerable. That’s normal. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you reach out. If you are ready to do the work, we will meet you there and walk with you through it.
