Marisa Schongalla

Specializing in the treatment of children, adolescents aged 18 to 25, and families, Marisa Schongalla, PsyD, LP, is a psychologist in Canton, Michigan, with more than 20 years of experience. Her clinical focus includes the assessment and treatment of ADHD, anxiety disorders, and depression. Dr. Schongalla earned her Bachelor of Arts from the Honors Psychology program at the University of Michigan in 1998, followed by a Doctorate of Psychology with an emphasis on child and family therapy from the California School of Professional Psychology in 2003. After completing a postdoctoral internship at Kaiser Permanente’s Department of Child Psychiatry in Hayward, CA, she returned to Michigan in 2004. Dr. Schongalla utilizes an eclectic approach to care that is grounded in psychoeducation, family systems views, and cognitive-behavioral strategies. She tailors these interventions to meet the specific needs of each individual and family, viewing parents as essential members of the treatment team. Her therapeutic process encourages active parental participation as children and adolescents develop more effective self-regulation and coping skills. To provide comprehensive support, she coordinates closely with psychiatrists, primary care physicians, and school personnel within the community. Her practice incorporates various modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Exposure Therapy, Family Therapy, Mindfulness, Parent Child Interaction Therapy, and Parenting Skills. Outside of her clinical work, Dr. Schongalla enjoys reading, crafting, traveling, and spending time with her spouse, two children, and pets.
