Dr. Laura Seibert is a licensed clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist who specializes in helping individuals and families manage the complex emotional and functional challenges of living with neurological disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions, and chronic medical issues. She earned her Ph.D. in 2004 through a joint doctoral program between SDSU and the UCSD School of Medicine and furthered her training with an internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington School of Medicine in the Departments of Psychiatry and Rehabilitation Medicine. With two decades of experience in hospital-based medical settings, including work at Casa Colina Centers for Rehabilitation and Sharp Memorial Hospital’s neurorehabilitation center, Dr. Seibert has supported patients across the entire lifespan. Her clinical background for adults includes conducting neuropsychological evaluations and providing treatment for those affected by traumatic brain injuries, strokes, spinal cord injuries, and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and frontotemporal dementia. In her pediatric practice, she focuses on diagnostic evaluations for autism spectrum and other developmental disorders, working closely with children and parents to enhance social, emotional, and academic functioning. In her current clinical practice, Dr. Seibert is dedicated to supporting individuals whose mental health is impacted by medical conditions, particularly those with neurological concerns. She addresses a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues, including anxiety, depression, grief, and anger, which often arise following a new disability or major medical diagnosis. Her therapeutic approach is tailored to each client's specific needs, utilizing evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). A key component of her work includes supporting caregivers through their own emotional journeys. When appropriate, Dr. Seibert provides cognitive strategies to help patients improve academic performance or function more effectively despite declining skills or new impairments. She also incorporates lifestyle interventions that research suggests may slow cognitive decline related to disease or normal aging. Dr. Seibert’s primary clinical goal is to empower her patients to recognize their inherent value and find happiness while navigating life's differences and challenges.
