Dr. Ikram Hassan is a clinical psychologist who focuses on supporting individuals, families, and caregivers through a collaborative and holistic lens. Based in Chicago, Illinois, she has extensive experience providing counseling and therapy alongside specialized neuropsychological and neurodevelopmental assessments. Dr. Hassan is dedicated to offering trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and affirming care that respects the diverse spiritual, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds of her clients. In her therapeutic practice, Dr. Hassan views the presenting problem as a gateway to deeper healing. Her approach considers human development as a complex process shaped by relational dynamics, wider cultural contexts, and sociolinguistic realities. By shifting from linear to circular causation, she integrates various theoretical models to meet each client's unique needs. Her work draws from a broad range of modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and psychodynamic, humanistic, and somatic approaches. She also incorporates mindfulness, family systems, multicultural therapy, and expressive arts such as music, art, and play therapy. Using a person-centered and strength-based style, she strives to create a safe environment where children, adults, and families can find the necessary space to heal. Dr. Hassan earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota before completing a master’s degree in Adlerian Psychology at the Adler Graduate School. She subsequently obtained both a second master’s degree and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Adler University in Chicago. Her clinical training includes a doctoral internship at the Washburn Center for Children and a postdoctoral fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. She further advanced her expertise through fellowships at UCLA Medical Center and a joint fellowship at the University of Minnesota and the University of Illinois Chicago, focusing on maternal childhood health and neurodevelopmental disorders. Having practiced in both urban and rural communities, Dr. Hassan has served diverse populations in settings ranging from community mental health and private practice to Veterans Hospitals and academic medical centers. She is capable of providing therapy and assessments in English, Somali, and German. When not working with clients, she enjoys baking, gardening, traveling, and spending time in nature.
