Hi, I'm Hannah! I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Therapist (LCMHC) offering online counseling to students at a discounted rate. In terms of my approach, I find that therapy is most effective when counselor and client have a good working relationship. That's why I work with you to identify what you want to get out of therapy. After our goals are defined, I utilize a tailored combination of evidence-based therapeutic approaches. The approaches I like to use are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) and Mindfulness-Based Techniques. Occasionally I also draw from Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT). Let's face it, living a human life comes with lots of difficult emotions. As much as we want them to, challenging emotions are not going away. The type of therapy I practice focuses on helping you change your relationship to emotions so that it's more peaceful and harmonious. That being said, sometimes "being with" emotions feels intolerable, so it's important to have some skills and techniques to soothe the central nervous system when the alarm bells are going off. This is another area I focus on in my work. All together, this process takes time and hard work. Sometimes that can lead to self-blame and the belief that we're "broken." That's why I also integrate self-compassion work into my general approach to therapy. If it seems like we would be a good fit, contact me today!
