Ellen Singer

I am a transgender woman. I have been in practice in Charlottesville for 20 years under my old name. My practice is a synthesis of three approaches to psychotherapy: Carl Rogers's statement as to the necessary qualities of a therapist (genuineness, holding the client in unconditional positive regard, and being able to communicate empathic understanding of the client's emotional situation); psychodynamic theory (emotional pain can usually be traced to early life situations); and mindfulness.
