Supporting athletes as they work through mental health crisis, injury, and retirement.

As someone who pursued athletics in my youth, I developed a passion early on to discover what made top athletes unique. I quickly concluded it was not just physical abilities, but that of mental strength. My undergraduate studies gave me an exposure to the mental health component of sports performance. It wasn’t until my graduate studies that I realized mental health was equally important for athletes. This realization was my ‘light bulb’ moment that athletes should have access to trained professional counselors to assist them as they face mental health challenges. An athlete’s mental health is often overlooked and can impact their ability to compete. My goal is to provide tools that foster positive mental health in sport and in life. My PhD studies furthered my confirmation of adequately supporting athletes as they transitioned away from sport and to provide continuity of care for the lifespan of the athlete's career as well as life after sport.
