I work from a psychodynamic/psychoanalytic perspective with people with a wide range of issues and a specialization in extreme states such as psychosis.
I work with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, questions of identity, and experiences of feeling stuck or dissatisfied in one's life. In each case, I approach the person as a singular subject rather than reducing their difficulties to a diagnosis or predetermined explanation. I also specialize in working with people who experience psychosis and extreme states—including voices, unusual beliefs, and experiences that can profoundly alter one's relationship to oneself and to the world. My approach is psychoanalytic and psychodynamic and is inspired by the work of Jacques Lacan. Rather than treating psychosis simply as a collection of symptoms to be eliminated, I listen closely to how each person's experience is organized through language, personal history, relationships, and their relation to the world. I am interested in the particular meaning and purpose that symptoms and voices may have for each person. Through this work, it may become possible to develop a different relationship to one's symptoms and experiences—one that allows for greater stability, freedom, and possibilities for relating to oneself and others. I see therapeutic work as a space to speak and to discover something about what organizes our experience—our symptoms, repetitions, desires, and ways of relating to others. My aim is to listen for what is singular in each person's experience and to support the possibility of finding a way forward that is distinctly their own.
