Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
As a seasoned therapist, I have a great deal of experience working with undergraduate and graduate students who are struggling with a variety of concerns.
I believe that all people have the innate capacity to heal from painful experiences, adapt to difficult situations, alter unhealthy behavior, and find true happiness. Sometimes, however, we need help developing this capacity or clearing the obstacles that prevent us from accessing our most capable self. I have decades of experience treating people with disordered eating issues (bulimia, binge eating disorder, restricted eating, chronic dieting etc) and related body image concerns, as well as people struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and other general life challenges. Using an eclectic mix of Mindfulness Practices, Internal Family Systems Therapy techniques, Mindful Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Buddhist Psychology, Somatic Psychotherapy and Trauma-Informed Therapy, I create a welcoming environment where students can feel at ease discussing any topic--knowing they will not be judged and are allowed to work at a pace that promotes a sense of safety and validation. I specialize in Eating Disorders/body image concerns, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, life transitions, grief/loss and trauma. I am trained in EMDR and also teach Mindful Eating at UVA Mindfulness Center. I encourage students to check out my website to get a sense of what it may be like to work with me. https://www.barbaramaillelcsw.com/my-approach.html
