Andrea Dougherty helps adults navigate emotional pain, life transitions, and the lasting effects of trauma so they can feel grounded, empowered, and more fully themselves. She provides individual therapy to adults and seniors across Rhode Island, offering a thoughtful balance of clinical skill and compassionate care for those seeking meaningful, lasting change. Andrea is especially passionate about trauma-informed therapy and supporting individuals whose past experiences continue to shape their thoughts, emotions, or relationships. She has extensive experience treating PTSD and trauma-related concerns, as well as anxiety and depression, helping patients understand how earlier wounds may show up in the present and gently working to reduce their impact. Her approach emphasizes safety, collaboration, and restoring a sense of control, allowing healing to unfold at a pace that feels respectful and sustainable. In her work, Andrea integrates evidence-based interventions including EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based approaches. These methods support patients in processing distressing experiences, reshaping unhelpful thought patterns, and building practical tools for emotional regulation and resilience. She works with adult populations, including women and members of the LGBTQ+ community, and also supports individuals navigating midlife and later-life transitions, grief, and reproductive challenges. Andrea offers additional areas of focus beyond these specialties to meet each patient’s unique needs. Andrea Dougherty is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been providing mental health care since 1997. She serves adults throughout Rhode Island with a warm, experienced, and trauma-informed approach. Outside of her clinical work, Andrea enjoys staying active and creative as an avid pickleball enthusiast and dog lover who appreciates music, time in nature, art museums, and biking. She lives in Providence with her daughter and two beloved dogs.
