Psychiatrist
I look forward to meeting you! I work in a warm, collaborative style with the goal of helping you feel and function better in work and relationships.
I came to Durham as a Duke undergrad 30 years ago. Since then, I have seen Duke students throughout the years. Initial appointments are intended to help understand you, and understand the difficulties that are currently making life more challenging. I see people with a wide variety of problems, including difficulties in school, work, or relationships, as well as people struggling with worry or low mood or difficulty focusing. My style is very collaborative. I want to understand how you see yourself so that we can seek to understand whatever current difficulties you are facing. From there, we can create a plan. Treatment might include psychotherapy or medications. I use medications carefully, using an evidence-based approach. In therapy, I listen with warmth and kindness, with the goal of helping ease problematic emotional patterns. I use a flexible and constructive approach to therapy. I am an experienced psychodynamic therapist, and use CBT and DBT and mindfulness-based therapies regularly.
