Julie Freedman
(She/Her/Hers)
Psychologist
Dr. Freedman specializes in treating adults with sport & performance concerns, emotion dysregulation, body image/disordered eating & interpersonal issues.
I am trained as both a counseling and sports psychologist. I additionally have training in working with the eating disorder population. When working with athletes, I am able to pull on my personal experience being a collegiate athlete and my training to help athletes balance the various obstacles they encounter in sport. My counseling training allows me to go beyond the specific sport issues and address the root problem which is often inked to a mental health concern. My eating disorder training and passion has been working with athletes struggling with EDs. I have done psychoeducation talks to trainers, coaches, organizations along with working with athletes directly to manage their disorder through a HAES informed team approach. I also work with non athlete clients who struggle with eating disorders and body image concerns and find the body neutrality focus to be very impactful. I enjoy working with clients who are open to feedback and looking to make changes in their lives to be more in line with their values. Stylistically, I try to balance acceptance and validation with a strengths based approach to help clients build insight and take steps towards their goals. I focus on building the therapeutic relationship help facilitate sharing and growth during treatment.
