Dr. Young has been practicing in Charlottesville since 2013 and uses a medical-psychiatric approach to compassionately care for the whole person.

Dr. Emily Young, DO, MA, MPH specializes in medical and psychiatric treatment for adolescents and young adults. As a board-certified family physician with a specialty in psychiatry, Dr. Young has a deep understanding of the mental, emotional, and physical considerations when working with people. She prioritizes listening to and “hearing” her patients with curiosity and compassion, and she deeply commits to treating each person as an equal human deserving of respect, trust, and support. Dr. Young feels these patient-centered principles are paramount to achieving high-quality, trauma-informed, and effective mental health care for each individual patient. Dr. Young completed her residency at the University of Virginia and served as an attending at the UVA Student Health Center, UVA Health, and Sentara Martha Jefferson. Dr. Young then assumed a pivotal role as a lead child and adolescent psychiatrist at the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA), the only state-run child and adolescent psychiatric hospital in Virginia. She teaches at national, state, and university levels, and she serves as one of the longtime medical directors of the Charlottesville Free Clinic. She prioritizes privacy and compassion in caring for those with depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, PTSD, sexual and gender health needs, substance use, thought disorders, personality disorders, medical complexities, grief, and/or anger, among a multitude of other conditions.
