Banjo is a licensed clinical psychologist who is oriented towards helping people access their innate wisdom and natural proclivity towards healthy functioning in both body and mind. Having grown up in the rugged beauty of Maine, Banjo fostered a love for the outdoors and adventure. This passion led him to live and study in India and later, to work as a rock climbing and mountaineering instructor for Outward Bound. While he loved the risk and adventure of mountaineering, he was most inspired by the psychological transformation and spiritual growth that accompanied the challenge of exploring our undiscovered capabilities, both physical and emotional. He found that the relationships formed with others and oneself in these moments led to greater resilience, self-awareness, and lasting change. In his private practice, Banjo still finds himself oriented towards holding a space for people to explore their inner wilderness, with all of its rawness, challenges, and gifts. Banjo has been working as a therapist since 2001. He completed his doctorate degree in clinical psychology with his dissertation research focusing on the integration of mindfulness and psychotherapy. Banjo is a longtime resident of SE Portland, where he lives with his wife and two boys. He is an avid cyclocross and mountain bike rider and still, occasionally, rides his skateboard.
