Akilah Yates
(She/Her/Hers)
Certified Trauma Professional, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
Through a culturally responsive and trauma-informed approach, I help clients navigate life’s challenges, build resilience and reclaim their stories.
With over nine years of dedicated experience, I’ve had the privilege of supporting adults, children and adolescents as they navigate trauma, anxiety and depression. I’m here for those who feel overwhelmed by overthinking or find themselves constantly striving for more, often to the point of exhaustion. Whether you're facing childhood trauma that’s resurfacing in adulthood or you're simply seeking personal growth, I focus on using your strengths to help you move forward. My approach is trauma-informed, meaning I’m sensitive to how your past experiences impact your present. We’ll explore how your thoughts and behaviors connect, while practicing mindfulness to help you stay grounded in the moment. I also draw from Adlerian principles, which focus on your strengths and goals, and solution-focused methods that guide us toward actionable steps for progress. I take pride in being relatable and approachable—I’m not your typical therapist. I’ll laugh with you and sit in silence with you. I offer free consultations to ensure we’re a good fit. I value honesty, openness, connection, and I strive to provide a non-judgmental, relaxed environment where you can feel supported and understood.
