Binh Nguyen
(He/Him/His)
Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)
People deserve to feel agency and dignity in their lives, my goal is to help reconnect them to their preferred ways of living.
His approach to therapy is based in the narrative worldview, or otherwise referred to as Narrative Therapy. Core ideas like the importance of meaning-making, contextual histories of a problem, and centering the client’s knowledge and values, resonate with his view of mental health and wellness. He strongly relates to the narrative adage that ‘people are not the problem, the problem is the problem’. Binh also utilizes interventions from cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy to help clients solve and manage crises, while maintaining a strengths-based perspective for long-term change. Strategies to increase mindfulness, build emotional awareness, and linking the environment to our thoughts are some of tools clients walk away with in sessions. Identifying the lack of representation of Asian American mental health professionals, Binh hopes to work closer with the Asian/Asian American population in Boston, acknowledging that his position and racial identity could serve as a bridge into accessing quality mental health care. He has extensive experience working with young adults and youth in the public education and therapeutic space.
