Valerie Steinman
(She/Her/Hers)
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
As a queer identified therapist, I provide a warm space to show up as your most authentic self as we work to find the balance that works for you.
I have experience working with children, teens, and their families from diverse backgrounds. I work to join with young people in order to view things from their perspective to help gain insight to their unique struggles. I specialize in working with youth who identify within the LGBTQIA spectrum, as well as those who may be questioning who they are and where they belong. Woven into my work is the strength in authenticity, focuses on empowering young people to use their voices, and brainstorming different ways to cope with their ever-evolving selves. I utilize an eclectic approach applying therapeutic techniques like Person-Centered therapy, Relational-Cultural therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral therapy in order to establish realistic goals based on a collaborative effort from the young person and the potential addition of their family. I have experience working with youth through struggles like emotional regulation issues, stress related to school and social experiences, family issues, and struggles with communication. I treat depression, anxiety, and trauma related symptoms while weaving in important focuses on self-esteem, values, and self-care.
