Dr. Taryn Brandt is a licensed psychologist, Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC), and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). Taryn currently works as a psychologist at Boston Children's Hospital within the sports medicine department. She also provides services to the USA Gymnastics Rhythmic program as a contractor and supports athletes through her part time private practice, Aspire Sport Psychology & Counseling. Taryn has previously held roles as a Sport Psychologist at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and as a Psychological Services Provider at the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee. Taryn earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Hartford followed by a M.A. in Sport and Performance Psychology at the University of Denver and culminated her educational journey by completing a PsyD in Counseling Psychology with a focus on Athletic Counseling at Springfield College in Massachusetts Taryn’s areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, trauma, identity concerns, injury, sport transition/retirement, and sport performance. She enjoys working with eating disorders/body image concerns as well as grief/loss. A former competitive figure skater, Taryn particularly enjoys working with figure skaters, gymnasts, and dancers. She has experience working with athletes in traditional sports as well as niche sports such as fencing, sport shooting, luge, biathlon, and skiing (alpine & nordic). Taryn approaches her work through an integrative approach using Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) therapy, mindfulness and meditation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), components of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), positive psychology, self-compassion, and honoring a multicultural perspective. She believes that safe and supportive therapeutic relationships can be healing and aims to provide unconditional positive regard and compassion to each athlete she has the privilege to support. When she is not working you will likely find Taryn hiking or paddle boarding with her golden retriever, Clover. Other forms of self-care include yoga, traveling, sewing projects, spending time with loved ones, and getting lost in a good book.
