David Crowley
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
I welcome clients from all backgrounds. Extensive experience working with University of Illinois students
I am now providing psychotherapy in my private practice after 25 years working at the University of Illinois, McKinley Health Center, Mental Health Department. At McKinley I was member of a clinical team that included three Psychiatrists, two Psychologists and two Clinical Social Workers. Many of my referrals come from Physicians who I coordinate care with as we seek to add non-medicine coping skills for anxiety and mood management. While medication can be helpful, I believe it is important to address situational factors and build coping skills to more fully address my client's problems. My clinical approach includes developing a comfortable, accepting relationship and utilizing cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness and acceptance, social skill development, problem solving and solution oriented methods. We will also utilize insight oriented approaches to understand underlying factors that may be contributing to distress and to promote healthier functioning and relationships.
