Emily Benefield, MSW, LCSW-A
(She/Her/Hers)
Psychotherapist
I consider trust, empathy and kindness as the foundation of our therapeutic relationship. I look forward to working with you!
Hi! My name is Emily Benefield (pronouns: she/her/hers), Master of Social Work (MSW) and Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate (LCSWA). In 2018 earned my undergraduate degree in Women’s and Gender Studies from NC State University and soon after in 2020, my Master of Social Work with a concentration in Direct Practice from UNC Chapel Hill. My passion for social justice, women’s and gender issues, helping individuals overcome mental health challenges and life transitions is what makes me feel energized about my work. I aim to provide an inclusive, non-judgmental, safe space for clients of all walks of life, and consider trust, empathy and kindness as the foundation of our therapeutic relationship. I create individual treatment plans using an eclectic approach of modalities that reflect the unique needs of each client. Using person-centered and strengths-based approaches as the starting point, I then utilize methods of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Holistic Therapy and various mindfulness techniques. Most importantly, I enjoy working with others from the perspective of empowerment. I care deeply about meeting each client where they are in their life and working collaboratively to implement techniques and interventions that best align with the individual’s goals for change.
