Alexandra (Alex) Slebodnik
(She/Her/Hers)
Counselor, National Certified Counselor (NCC)
Hi there! I'm Alex, I help those who feel overwhelmed by daily anxiety, loss, or out of control eating.
I believe in building a supportive and encouraging space for my clients to process, heal and grow. I take a client-centered approach in therapy, where I create an individualized plan for every client focused on meeting their specific goals. Many of today’s solutions for weight loss and body image disturbances include fad diets, intense workout regimens and plastic surgery to fit the “body ideal” society has created. This often leads clients to feel more disconnected from their body and increases feelings of failure and shame. In our work together I help you re-establish a healthy relationship with food, exercise, and self-image, so that you don’t have to continually be stressing over what to eat or what to wear. As for emotional distress and grief, culture has promoted the message that showing emotions is a sign of “weakness” and needs to be suppressed. Time limits on how long someone “should” feel a certain way can dismiss the complexities of loss and pressure individuals to move on prematurely. Rather than avoiding painful emotions, I provide space to process them and move towards healing and growth at your own pace. It’s ok to not be ok – but you don’t need to stay there!
