Michelle Koeneke
(She/Her/Hers)
Independent Substance Abuse Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
I welcome clients struggling with anxiety, life transitions, grief, and/or relationship issues with the goal of empowering you to live your best life.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who served on the Trauma Service at Duke Hospital for 9 years and with Duke Population Health for 2 years, I have clinical expertise in understanding the biological, psychological, social and spiritual aspects of suffering and the healing process. I have an eclectic approach to treatment which incorporates multiple evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), to help clients understand the link between negative perceptions (cognitions) and long-standing behavior patterns which negatively impact our relationships and personal life aspirations. I have particular interest in working with clients who are experiencing stress, anxiety, life transitions, medical crises, trauma, and grief/loss. As a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), I also provide addiction-relapse prevention support. As a therapist, I consider myself a “wounded healer” who is a fellow traveler on the road toward healthy living. It is a privilege to walk alongside others who desire to live a more wholehearted and authentic life. I have a Master of Social Work degree from North Carolina State University and a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Arizona. Further, I am a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator for Dr. Brené Brown’s Daring Way™ work. In my practice, I strive to create a non-judgmental and safe place to explore your unique needs and assist you in your personal growth.

Certified Daring Way Facilitator
Brene' Brown LLC
The Daring Way™ is a highly experiential methodology based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown Ph.D, LMSW, a research professor at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work. We will explore topics such as vulnerability, courage, shame, and worthiness. Participants are invited to examine the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that are holding them back and identify the new choices and practices that will move them toward more authentic and wholehearted living. The primary focus is on developing shame resilience skills and developing daily practices that transform the way we live, love, and lead.
