Emily Alkema
Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC)
I worked with college students for fifteen years prior to becoming a counselor. My specialties include anxiety, relationships, and faith issues.
I believe that life is inevitably full of transition, stresses, losses, and even failure, which are as much a part of life as joy, success, and contentment. I want to provide a listening ear, steady encouragement, and knowledgeable presence for clients which helps them succeed, whatever they are facing. I worked with college students for fifteen years prior to becoming a counselor and enjoy helping young adults find their way through the challenges, stresses, and important decisions they face. I assist clients with a variety of mental health issues, as well as life events and transitions. I have a special interest in promoting healthy relationships and do premarital and couples counseling along with seeing individuals. Prior to transitioning into the counseling field, I served in pastoral ministry for almost two decades. Thus, I am quite at home engaging a client’s faith perspective as a part of therapy, when this is the client’s desire. I am also very comfortable with crises of faith as well as relating to clients totally disinterested in religion. I offer a sliding scale, which makes therapy affordable for anyone without mental health benefits or on a tight budget.
